Reactive dogs in external environments
What is a reactive dog?
A dog that doesn’t feel comfortable walking by your side and reacts aggressively or jumps away in fear, to any given situations, this can include,
- they see cars or bikes
- other dogs and people
I like to focus on how to create new habits and teach your dog not to feel the need to react to given objects. It’s about understanding how to read their body language before they react and redirecting them at the correct moment.
Once your dog has reacted it’s too late to correct behaviour, this needs to be done before the dog’s reaction. However, it’s also very important not to tense up at the point you see what could make your dog react. I know this is easier said than done, but there are plenty of techniques to redirect your behaviour which intern redirects your dog’s behaviour?
The way your dog digest information is very different to how we digest information this is often the catalyst that creates the behaviours so commonly displayed by reactive dogs.
